Simple Tree and Shrub Trimming Tips:
Cut dead/diseased branches first
Remove/cut branches growing inward and branches that are touching each other
Raise the canopy to the desired level by removing low hanging branches and then remove any remaining branches as neccesary

Cut Just above the Buds
Cut above healthy side branches
Thin by cutting a stem back to the main branch
Cut Branch all the way to the base or the ground. (leave about half an inch from the base)
When Cutting large heavier branches. Do 3 cuts to prevent bark from tearing or pulling away from the tree.
1st cut - under cut about 1 ft from the base of the branch
2nd cut - is over cut 1-2 inches in front of initial cut. (this branch will drop straight down)
3rd cut - 1” from base of branch to remove the small branch section
