Christmas Light Installation Materials

C9 Bulbs

C9 bulbs are large, bright bulbs commonly used for roofline installations. They are available in various colors and are known for their durability and brightness in outdoor displays.

C7 Bulbs

Smaller than C9 bulbs, C7 bulbs are often used for smaller displays, such as on bushes or trees. They are slightly less bright but still effective for outdoor use.

Mini Lights

Mini lights are commonly used for wrapping trees, bushes, and smaller decorations. There are various types of mini lights, including:

  • G12 Mini Lights: Round bulbs, often referred to as "berry lights."
  • 5mm Mini Lights: Compact and bright, perfect for detailed installations.
  • Incandescent Mini Lights: Traditional warm mini lights, though less energy-efficient than LED versions.
  • LED Mini Lights: Energy-efficient and long-lasting, ideal for large displays.

Socket Cord (12-Inch and 15-Inch Spacing)

Socket cords with 12-inch and 15-inch spacing are used to run C9 or C7 bulbs along rooflines, trees, and other areas. The spacing ensures an even and professional look. Custom cut these cords to fit specific areas.

Zip Line Cord (18/2 Gauge)

Zip line cord, also known as lamp cord, is used to custom cut light strands and extension cords. The 18/2 gauge wire is standard for Christmas light installations.

Hot Glue

Hot glue is used to attach lights to difficult surfaces like brick or stone. This temporary adhesive allows for a secure hold without the need for clips or screws, but it should be used with caution as it can damage some surfaces.

Male and Female Connectors

These connectors are used to custom-fit light strands, allowing you to connect the lights to power sources and other strands. Ensure proper wiring and weatherproofing with dielectric grease.

Inline Female Connectors

These connectors allow you to create power connections at any point along the zip line (18/2 gauge). They have a break-off tab and are perfect for adding power to custom sections of your light strands.

Clips

Clips are used to attach lights securely to shingles, gutters, or other surfaces. Types of clips include:

  • Tuff Clips: Ideal for shingle installations, providing a strong hold.
  • Halo Clips: Snap onto bulbs and attach to gutters or shingles.
  • Magnetic Clips: Perfect for metal roofs and surfaces.

Hooks and Anchors

Hooks and anchors are used to securely install wreaths, garlands, and heavier decorations. They are often drilled into brick, stone, or other hard surfaces to provide a strong hold.

Wreaths

Wreaths are a festive decoration often installed above entryways or on large windows. All wreaths should come with lights and a decorative bow unless otherwise requested by the client.

Garlands

Garlands are used to decorate railings, columns, and entryways. Similar to wreaths, garlands should always have lights installed unless specifically requested as unlit by the client. A bow can also be added for extra decoration.

Greenery (Wreaths & Garlands)

All greenery, including wreaths and garlands, should come pre-lit unless otherwise requested by the client. For a polished, festive look, add a decorative bow to each piece of greenery.

Plain Zip Ties

Plain zip ties are essential for securing light strands, cords, and other decorations. They are durable and help keep installations neat and organized.

Colored Zip Ties

Colored zip ties are used for labeling light strands and sections, allowing for easy identification during both installation and takedown. They should correspond with a photo or diagram of the installation.

Storage Bins

Large, durable storage bins (27 gallons or more) are essential for organizing and storing lights, cords, and other materials. Clear bins can help with quick identification, while bins with moisture control packets can prevent damage to stored lights.

Timers

Timers are used to automate the on and off cycles of your lights. Options include photocell timers, mechanical timers, and digital timers. Timers help to control energy consumption and ensure consistent lighting.
